A podcast thirty one accumulated hours in the making, SOTSM broaches the subject of the animation albatross known as The Thief And The Cobbler!

With the recent passing of the esteemed Richard Williams and the tributes that followed a pair of titles repeatedly stood out: his undeniably popular work Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, and another convoluted and perhaps notorious production called The Thief And The Cobbler. Delayed, waylaid and recut into various releases in its unfinished state, many had given up Williams' grand artistic statement as folly. But is this being uncharitable to what he strove to achieve not just in the film itself but animation as a whole? Crime, corporate skullduggery and a years long quest for perfection almost distract us from savouring a cartoon spectacle the likes of which may never be seen again!

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure departs the stage for now but Let's Go continues apace with all the other things you could be watching. Or perhaps not, as Cop Craft and BEM are unceremoniously dumped to make room for The Demon Girl Next Door, alongside the usual blaze battling in Fire Force, dastardly Danes in Vinland Saga and caveman cookery in Dr. Stone. Hope you brought your appetite!

SOTSM x DITB: The Anime That Didn’t Make Us #7 – Lupin III Part 3, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Nadesico
Dwayne Moloney, podcast man-about-town, took a trip back in time with Dynamite In The Brain to pore over anime titles of days past that could have been formative experiences in their youth were it not for pesky things like geographical barriers or their absence from terrestrial television. Getting the hypothetical nostalgia treatment this time around are the unfairly maligned Lupin The Third Part 3, the Giant Robo casting department that is Mitsuteru Yokayama's adaptation of Romance Of The Three Kingdoms and the dense mecha satire/homage Martian Successor Nadesico. Those were the good old days! (maybe)

To back up his claims in the next/previous instalment of Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan that Japan's best-selling manga creator could somehow be bankrupt, Rohan relates the terrifying tale of the bizarre beings who dwell upon Mutsu-kabe Hill whose existence can defy even death itself. Will the atypical artist find this research trip worth the danger? Stick around to the end to find out, as well as what's been happening in the non-Jojo anime world! See you up top!
Sunday, 25 August 2019
Our JoJo's Bizarre Adventure addiction torments us still, so to help wean ourselves off it we delve into the spin-off Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan stories of which some have been helpfully adapted for animation. Rohan's editor requests his help in a lucrative real estate deal, but are the strange rumours surrounding the property linked to a supernatural entity beyond human comprehension? It's up to our favourite curmudgeonly cartoonist to solve the case, while we also take the brunt of the weekly anime slate. That's rich!
Wednesday, 21 August 2019
Parting is such dolce dispiacere as Let's Go Jojo must once again return to a state of dormancy until our powers are needed again. While Passione looks forward to a brighter future our own outfit still has its eyes set on the present: Dr. Stone reaffirms its resolve to rebuild civilisation, Vinland Saga finds itself a stranger in a strange land, Fruits Basket makes new friends while Fire Force faces new foes and Gegege No Kitaro has nothing but scorn for modern society. Arrivederci GioGio!

We learn a whole new definition of Le Chat Noir as we delve into the moggy murder mystery they call Felidae!

Adapted from a best-belling book series by controversial German author Akif Pirincci, Felidae's matinee-friendly looking characters belie a pretty graphic thriller steeped in the murky atmosphere of a pulp novella. Does it have anything else going for it besides gruesome spectacle though? Frisky felines, misleading IMDB information and other pulp pussycats might help us pull it out of the bag!
Wednesday, 7 August 2019
Look out behind you, it's the end of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind! Much like Diavolo we elect to rail against our inevitable fate and parcel out this denouement a little further, and the only way to understand this is to return to the beginning of the story for a strange encounter that may have had a hand in shaping the destinies of our heroes. The sun may be setting on Jojo but our fresh crop of anime is coming along nicely with Dr. Stone, Vinland Saga, Cop Craft and company providing all the crazy we need in here. This ain't over!
Sunday, 4 August 2019
Our catch-up continues with the slate getting whittled down a little bit further after some sudden left turns by our new entrants. Do You Love Your Mom...? Etc reveals it may love it's maternal main star a little -too- much, while Fire Force sputters slightly but still remains bright. Dr Stone and Vinland Saga are busy discovering new worlds as one seeks to rebuild while the other stoops to conquer (and reveal a storied history of cartoon Viking barrel concealment). We'll be in here if you need us!
Wednesday, 31 July 2019
It's a Summer season blowout as we comfort eat a whole host of new anime to assuage our melancholy at the absence of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Cops & robbers & magic (oh my!), an embarrassing young man is further humiliated by his mother, some literal fire fighters come to our rescue while science will save the entire world! It may be lukewarm but it's what's for dinner!
Sunday, 28 July 2019
We've finally got the Let's Go Gang together for their most important case yet! Brian Smith joins us for another new format wherein we examine the transformative nature of live-action titles into animation or vice-versa and discover what is gained, lost or irrevocably changed in the process. To start with we look at one of the more notorious examples of a cartoon "homaging"a popular live sitcom, as Hanna Barbera was often wont to do, when Phil Silvers and his famous Sergeant Bilko persona are pitted against his hand-drawn doppleganger Top Cat. Plots, punchlines and even players are shared between the two but only one will make it out, DRAWN OR ALIVE!
Sunday, 21 July 2019
This stone arrow is turning out to be more of a hot potato as nobody from Giorno to Mista to Diavolo-possessing-Trish-in-Mista's-body can keep a hold of the darn thing long enough to unleash it's hidden powers. Will the gang get to the point before they get it right between the eyes from King Crimson? You'll find out on July 28th! In the meantime we'll have our fill of the freshest anime offerings of the Summer season!
Wednesday, 17 July 2019
Diavolo's perisistence pays off at last, choosing the most opportune of moments as escried by King Crimson to catch Giorno and the gang in quite the bind. It'll all be for naught unless Chariot Requiem's rampage can be stopped though and Diavolo reckons he might have all this figured out. Is it curtains for our heroes? Much like a sizeable chunk of the rest of our viewing slate? The fates of many hang in the balance!
Sunday, 14 July 2019
Diavolo makes his move and strikes from the shadows with devestating results, but just where the hell does the diabolical don's soul currently reside? One mystery would be enough, however Chariot Requiem retains a firm grip on the stone arrow with seemingly no way to surmount the sentient Stand's abilities. The requiem plays all the while, but for whom?!
Wednesday, 10 July 2019
Polnareff has fallen yet his spirit lingers on someplace else, or should that be SOMEONE else? Silver Chariot's latent powers run amok across Rome changing peoples places and faces and our gang are no exception. Amongst this confusion can they figure out which soul is which, especially the current host for the villainous Diavolo? More importantly will Mista ever get his balls back? We do our best to unravel the mess right here!

An old friend returns to our midst for one last caper, and for an essentially made-for-TV movie that was lucky enough to get a cinema run School's Out strikes a surpisingly effective note of nostalgia that resonates with us sensitive podcast personalities as Niall expounds upon at length. Baby's First 60s Mixtape and the depraved actions one takes to maintain a disguise also find room in a refreshing radio release!
Tuesday, 18 June 2019
He's finally backed into a corner, or is he? Passione's elusive boss attempts one final gambit before the one & only Jean Pierre Polnareff spills the beans about his most valuable secrets. Desperate measures are the name of the game as the Armed Detective Agency rallies to defuse a gang war in Bungou Stray Dogs, Tahomaru takes matters into his own hands to save his people in Dororo, cops and robbers go rogue in Sarazanmai and a lovelorn yokai resorts to home invasion in Gegege No Kitaro. Snitches get stitches!
Wednesday, 12 June 2019
A rapidly deteriorating Bruno races against time to defeat Secco before he closes in on the mysterious informant, while Niall squares off against London's equally decaying transport infrastructure to take part in the show! Cowardly samurai, cocky kung fu fighters, bipolar bovines and conniving kappas battle for supremacy over the weekly TV anime slate! Give us your best shot!
Wednesday, 5 June 2019
Brian finds himself MIA at a board game convention, leaving Niall and Dwayne to take a more laissez faire attitude to podcasting recording by taking literal days to get this one in the can. Not that Giorno has the luxury of time as he seeks to defeat Cioccolata before the population of Rome is dissolvd into green slime! The cast of Fruits Basket continues to expand and a familiar face returns to plot his return to the top of the criminal underworld in Bungou Stray Dogs before Sarazanmai brings us crashing back down with an outrageous cliffhanger. Let's take this one slow!
Sunday, 2 June 2019
Those jolly japesters Joseph and Bradford over at Christmas Creeps recently bestowed upon us the honour of coming on their venerable podcast about festive films all year round to talk up some Satoshi Kon and his heartwarming homeless holiday classic Tokyo Godfathers. Haikus are composed, records (and hearts) are broken and our hosts receive a crash course in the last twenty years of Japanese socio-political issues via the medium of anime! It's a grand old time that's not just for Christmas, so go ahead and listen up!
Wednesday, 29 May 2019
The doctor is in! Saving the worst til last Diavolo unleases his most terrible assassins in the deranged duo of Cioccolata and Secco. With the whole of Rome under threat from a flesh-eating mold will this be a sticky end for the gang-stars? Unlikely partnerships abound as Lucy Maude Montgomery vows revenge on Atsushi Nakajima in Bungou Stray Dogs while some unconventional families bury the hatchet as Hyakkimaru and Dororo reunite, Tohru meets some more Soma cousins in Fruits Basket and Kazuki rescues his adoptive brother in Sarazanmai. It's good for what ails ya!
Wednesday, 22 May 2019
This must be the work of an enemy Stand! A woozy Brian tries his best to keep up as we follow Bucciarati's Boys all the way to Rome on the advice of a mysterious computer informant. Will this leg of the journey be just as fraught with peril as the rest? Probably! Elsewhere on the podcast Niall is uniquely touched by developments in Sarazanmai, Bungou Stray Dogs grants us a long-awaited reunion and Hyakkimaru visits is dad in Dororo. These family holidays can be murder!
Wednesday, 15 May 2019
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure takes another detour into recap territory so it's time for another Let's Go instalment devoted to the best of the rest and everything in between. A new criminal mastermind makes port in Yokohama and with him Bungou Stray Dogs returns to form, so he can't be all bad! Kitaro questions his own morals as a green energy project disturbs the yokai, Dororo reluctantly assists an old adversary on the hunt for buried treasure and Toi confronts past misdeeds in Sarazanmai. We're doing some hard time!
Friday, 10 May 2019
Bruno's best boys are hot on the case of the boss's identity, a matter made even more precarious by his host Doppio laying bloody & bruised nearby and desperate to keep this secret hidden. While Abbacchio reviews the tapes the rest of the gang comb the area, but who will prevail in this game of cat and mouse? On the other side of the island Sarazanmai comes on too strong, Dororo needs to learn some new editing techniques and Anime Logan Paul strikes again in Gegege No Kitaro! We got a bad feelin' about this!
Monday, 6 May 2019
Doppio chows down on another portion of Risotto Nero even as the metal mastering mercenary continues to carve up the multiple-minded mobster. With a little foresight courtesy of the boss and King Crimson however can he live to fight another day? Bungou Stray Dogs labours through more of its languid light novel gang war, Sarazanmai resorts to catnapping and our search for more Bonobono turns up a body with Crunchyroll holding the smoking gun. You're killin' us here!

We can party longer, harder and faster; we have the technology! Toons 'N' Tunes once again explores the convergence of animation and music, this time with all the power and precision of a mighty robot!

A surprisingly varied mixtape awaits our listening pleasure with the peculiar ubiquity of robots in music videos both past and present. The killer androids of the wasteland are on the hunt backed by Megadeth and Iron Maiden and inevitable synth-based dance tracks are forged by Equateur and Perturbator while the machines display their capacity to adapt and evolve with some singular singles by Bjork, Pete Miser and Caravan Palace. Why were we programmed to feel funky?
Tuesday, 23 April 2019
While the main cast are no doubt extricating themselves from a recent aerial disaster other developments are afoot within Passione as we meet the mild-mannered Doppio, dispatched on a secret mission by the boss himself! What purpose brings him to Sardinia? And how did such a nervous young lad become such a close confidant of the gang's leader? More importantly will the answers be any more shocking than the dubious return of One Punch Man or the confounding kappa chaos contained within new Kunihiko Ikuhara joint Sarazanmai? Please leave a message!
Monday, 22 April 2019
It's time for Trish to live up to her family name and face FULL LIFE CONSEQUENCES as she is forced to defend herself against the onslaught of the nigh-unstoppable Notorious B.I.G. New frontiers open up for us as well with the arrival of a new anime season that sees Fruits Basket and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba starting up but nary a hair of Bonobono to be seen! Is it gettin' hot in here or is it just me?
Sunday, 14 April 2019
Brian Smith roves out with us upon the barren media landscape of the near future, sorting through the charred fragments of the amorous android anthology they called Love, Death & Robots!

Noted directors and Netflix darlings David Fincher and Tim Miller present their latest outing on the ubiquitous streaming service, a collection of animated science fiction shorts for adult audiences of varying content and quality all ostensibly united under one or more of the themes mentioned in its title. Is it fertile ground for an interrogation of complex ideas relating to artificial intelligence, the purpose of existence and the nature of the soul? Or is it carte blanche to let animators' libidos run wild in the shallowest interpretation of "mature" possible? Famous authors, faithful renderings of genitalia and the recurring ratio problems with anthology works may just guide us to the answer!
Saturday, 13 April 2019
Fresh from escaping a watery grave the gang ignore JoJo's Bizarre Adventure precedent by taking to the skies as they step up their search for clues to the identity of the boss. A Stand stowaway lies in wait however, and even the combined power of the lads may not be enough to vanquish it! Hopefully they won't meet their end, but Boogiepop and Ekodachan call it a day while Kitaro lowers the curtain on the Nanashi storyline. Give 'em a big hand folks!
Tuesday, 2 April 2019
Our own Dwayne has a life outside this podcast you know, and you'll get to hear about some of it on a whole other podcast as he joins the Dynamite In The Brain boys for a trip down the memory lane that could have been if certain anime titles were available to them in their youth. There's romantic misunderstandings in Ai Shite Knight, the main character's death in the first episode of Yu Yu Hakusho and Detective Conan kicking off a mystery that's lasted 22 years and counting. Everything old is new again, and you can hear these echoes from the past for yourself if you listen up!
In spite of getting his neck chewed off by a slippery Stand shark Giorno still finds time to bring the clutch plays that'll guide Narancia towards victory. Outnumbered and outmaneuvered, can the pint-sized powderkeg exercise discretion for once? Things are also blowing up in Mob Psycho 100 as the scattered esper teams take on the forces of Claw, we reach the top of the tower in Boogiepop & Others, human/yokai relations descend into crisis in Gegege No Kitaro and an anime director gets drunk on air in Rinshi! Ekoda-chan. That's too much man!
Saturday, 30 March 2019
I don't remember ordering this! Not that Narancia can offer much protest as both his lunch and his tongue are hijacked by a brace of Stand users from the boss's super secret hit squad who seem a lot closer than just work colleagues. Psychic battles are also on the menu in Mob Psycho 100 as Seasoning City bears the brunt of an esper assault and Dororo serves up supernatural shellfish before we wash it all down with the bitter black tea of Gegege No Kitaro. Buon appetito!

Not everybody can be champ, but as media production and distribution methods advance over time we're seeing a reasonable amount of weird new content that might never have had a shot otherwise. Taking Netflix's Grappler Baki as a starting point we wax lyrical about the future fighting chances of some conceptual cartoons that never took it all the way: Genndy Tartakovsky's cursed Popeye movie, Yoshiaki Kawajiri's similarly stymied sequel to Ninja Scroll, the hack & slash hero homage that was Korgoth Of Barbaria and the brief glimmer of greatness that were the Marvel Anime teaser trailers. Is this an exercise in futility? We ask ourselves that every day, but let's have fun finding out together!
Tuesday, 19 March 2019
Who are those magnificent men in their flying machines? Why it's Brian and Anthony from Dynamite In The Brain, forming up on the wing with our own Dwayne to jaw about Studio Ghibli's paean to the pig-headed pilot Porco Rosso. Well, it's more of a dogfight really as two of the hosts make a vain attempt to dissuade the other from his wayward thoughts. It might take a game of HOG OR MOG to separate the pigs from the cats and settle the issue for good! To find out you'll just have to listen up!
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure may have taken a break for a recap but we sure didn't, as this intermission edition of Let's Go picks up the slack with all the other currently streaming anime other podcasts are too chicken to talk about! Marital strife in Bonobono! A terrifying day in the office for Ekoda-chan! Whatever the hell is going on in Karakuri Circus! All rolled up alongside the comparatively more sensible offerings in Mob Psycho 100, Boogiepop And Others and Dororo. No rest for the totally wicked!
Monday, 11 March 2019
The moment Jojo fans have been alternatingly dreading/eagerly awaiting has arrived as we find out along with Bruno just how the boss's Stand King Crimson actually works. The answer: pretty straightforward when committed to a moving medium over a static manga image! Luckily Gold Experience is on hand to provide all the Stand related bafflement this arc is notorious for. If you aren't confused yet then Karakuri Circus hops back on the crazy train after weeks of relative stability, Boogiepop And Others invades our dreams and one mystery may finally be solved with the return of Raccoon's mother in Bonobono. We'll crack this case yet!
Wednesday, 6 March 2019
Bruno's beautiful boys have finally reached the end of their journey but now the up and coming capo must proceed on the last step alone as he delivers Trish to the elusive boss. What are the mysterious mobster's true intentions? And can Bruno get any closer to realising his own secret goals? All the usual anime lurks in the corner also, overshadowed as it may be the mighty impact of five episodes of Boogiepop And Others dropping at once! The tension is killing us!

Us? Jump on a bandwagon? Perish the thought! We're merely embracing our new cyberpunk present and getting into the spirit of things with the Battle Angel Alita OVA!

James Cameron's long gestating adaptation of Yukito Kishiro's classic cyborg manga is tearing up cinemas around the world at last, so we thought we'd look back at the last time Battle Angel Alita, aka Gunnm, appeared on screens in this two part OVA that gives you the broad strokes of the story in fairly short order. Considering it served as a design influence for the live action how well does it capture the essence of the original manga? Comic comparisons, real world dystopias and fashionable director photos are taken apart!
Saturday, 2 March 2019
Giorno and Mista better get their skates on before Ghiaccio puts them both on ice for good! Against a foe who can freeze solid the very air around them though do they have a snowball's chance in Hell? Big Sister Dai's new boyfriend gets a frosty reception in Bonobono and a childhood yokai chum gets the cold shoulder in Gegege No Kitaro, but Hyakkimaru's explosion of anger oughta keep us warm in Dororo. Chill out!
Monday, 25 February 2019
Niall recently took a wander down a hypothetical memory lane with Brian and Anthony over on Dynamite In The Brain as they sampled some anime series that could have been formative experiences in their youth had they ever been released in their parts of the world. Captain Tsubasa cashed in on 80s World Cup fever, Fushigi Yugi whisked us to another world before it was cool and Bonobono innovated children's television with the addition of existential dread. Find out how this experiment in manufactured nostalgia unfolded when you listen up!
Wednesday, 20 February 2019
While Niall makes a desperate last stand against sudden technical difficulties Brian and Dwayne bear the brunt of a relentless onslaught, where one enemy Stand user has barely been dispatched before another is in cold pursuit of Giorno and Mista on the road to Venice. Boss Bear laments his wasted life in Bonobono, children are pawns in a cruel inscrutable game in Boogiepop & Others and Gegege No Kitaro considers the ethics of assisted suicide in this fun-filled podcast instalment. What a frosty reception!
Monday, 11 February 2019
They're starting these hardened criminals younger every year! Melone plays midwife to an unsettling assailant as Babyface is dispatched to take down Bruno's outfit. Will they be able to keep it all together against this disturbing foe? Madness prevails as a lunatic takes over the asylum (and an innocent girl's body) in Mob Psycho 100, Raccoon becomes an unstoppable pranking machine in Bonobono, Karakuri Circus flies in the face of common sense with a coherent episode and Kitaro doesn't even think to plead insanity when he's put on trial. It's crazy man!
Thursday, 7 February 2019
Bruno steps in to pick up the slack as he contends with the double trouble provided by Prosciutto and Pesci. With nothing but a spare bullet from the Sex Pistols as backup will he be able to defeat this deadly duo? It's not looking too good in other anime as a cute flashback episode takes a poignant turn in Bonobono, an old man's possessions are cruelly discarded in GeGeGe No Kitaro and an unrequited love is trampled by a mysterious corporate conspiracy in Boogiepop And Others. What a bummer!
Tuesday, 29 January 2019
The gang watch their lives flash before their eyes as Prosciutto's Stand ability envelops the train and rapidly starts aging the passengers into decrepit husks! With Pesci and Beach Boy lying in wait also can Mista and Sex Pistols shoot down their plans? It's all kicking off in the rest of the anime world too: Chipmunk VS Bono! Boogiepop VS Imaginator! Mob VS a very fast granny! It's here and it's live between your own two ears!

Christy Karacas of Superjail fame let his passions run amok on Adult Swim last year with this grungy love letter to the anime, comics and sci-fi movies of his youth delivered in speedy ten minute chunks. It plays fast and loose with the rules but can this ragtag bunch of misfits put in the hard yards where it counts? Cinematic bloodsports, adorable aliens and our own anime leanings are fit to play in your earholes!
Wednesday, 23 January 2019
The lads have booked themselves on an extra special transport to get Trish to safety, but they're serving surf 'n turf on board as Prosciutto and Peace are the latest members of the hitman team to pick up their trail. Is everything about to go off the rails for the gang? Some other new Winter anime have also pulled into the station, ready for a thorough vetting by the Let's Go customs officers. It's a first class experience!
Giorno, Abbacchio and Fugo are under attack from Illuso and Man In The Mirror, and there's no point asking this hardened killer to change his ways! Can they escape through the looking glass? Much like this website did from a recent hosting outage? The answers to these mysteries, piled high with the help of Detective Conan and Boogiepop & Others, may await on this very recording!
Sunday, 6 January 2019
It's a new year! An optimal time for some meaningful self-reflection, but don't look too close or you might fall prey to a dastardly Stand using mafioso lurking behind the glass as the boys soon discover. Will they meet their end this early in their gangster career? A whole host of other anime are ready to call it a day though with SSSS Gridman, Gurazeni, Zombieland Saga and Double Decker reaching the finish line. Make Let's Go your new habit for 2019!
